Pet's Story:
Abby Gayle, almost 4 years old, healthy Airedale Terrier until Sunday March 18. Got home from grandma's 69th Birthday just before dark, only to find her laying in the backyard, she hadn't touched her food or water that day. Took her downstairs and put her on her doggy bed, with special treats and water near by and came upstairs and called my friend who worked for the local vet. We live in the boon docks, about 3000 foot elevation. I got on the computer and read about the Pet Food Recall, noting that it was only the wet food not the dry which we had been feeding her. I thought that she was just not feeling well. The next morning she could not walk, there were black stools on the garage floor and she had vomit all over her face. We cleaned her up that morning and my friend from the vet called, I told him what was going on and he assured me that the recall was only for wet types of dog and cat food manufactured in Canada. I was told to get some pediolite and try to get as much down her as possible. By this time her mouth and tounge were not under her control. Her eyes were milky and I believe she could not see. I'm disabled and can not lift. I
desperatly tried to get her to the vet but my friend that worked at the vet said it was to late for her that she was in acute renal failure and the local vet would not be able to help her. She died with in my sons arms at 10:05 Monday the 19th of March. If I would have know that there was a problem with the DRY food, then maybe Abby Gayle would still be here. I can't say, maybe I would have not thought she was just having a bad day and taken her to the vet much earlier.
She was about 100 lbs bright eyed and gentle. She could grab your arm with her big mouth and drag you around the house and not even make a mark on you. She was our protector, when bad people tried to get into our yard, Abby Gayle was there to stop them. She would walk up to a strainger and stick her nose up there butt, I don't know why but it sure made us laugh. She was an excellent dog to walk until she would see a deer then all hell broke lose. She would jump straight up and down reminding me of a cartoon dog, a simple pull on the leash and a no Abby was all it took to settle her down but she sure was energetic. She loved to lay in the sun in a large hole she had prepared on the highest spot on the property so she could see everything. I swear to you she could smile and show her teeth when doing so. I don't know when I will get over losing my dear Abby Gayle, but right now with all the lies being dealt out, I can't stop crying. Now all I want to do is help someone else save their pets. It seems impossible at this point, but I will continue trying to save our best friends where ever I go.

I am so sorry for your loss. I too, hope something can be done to assure that this NEVER happens again to any pet owner in this country. I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling now, all I can do is express my deepest sympathy and regrets.
We believe our yellow lab named Max was poisoned by dry dog food, too... PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is pushing for an extended recall that includes dry dog food. This is such a sad time for so many of us... I share your grief. Max was 15 years old, he had a beautiful life until the last week. But I feel so bad that he went the way that he did.
I am so sorry for your loss. I have three little girls whom I dearly love, I do tend to spoil them. Since the dog food scare I have been preparing all the food they consume, chicken breast one day ground sirloin with rice on alternate days. I has become very expensive but I feel they are well worth the price.
I'm so sorry you lost the gorgeous Abby Gayle. Your story is a tragic lesson as to why we can't believe companies' self-reporting of recalls, and must have a national enforcement unit to actively inspect foods on a regular basis.
Hugs to you.
I believe your Abby Gail is now running and playing with my sweet dog Pickles who died a few years ago. I know the pain of your loss, as I have felt it myself.
Alert-Dry Pet foods lead to kidney failure so why do vets not tell us this!Dry food goes through the pets intestines like a sponge absorbing moisture-your pet cannot drink enough water to compensate for this moisture loss; therefore, the kidneys work harder and inevitably over time kidney failure sets in. Open your eyes and & be willing to recognize the dangers & reality that pet vaccinations are another lie & issue that needs to be recognized as they can be deadly either in the short term or long term.Vets make a huge profit on vaccinations but these vaccinations that are supposed to protect your pet & in more cases then you ever hear about, do cause many serious health problems & have been proven to cause cancers, FUS(crystals in the urinary tract), severe allergic reactions, etc. Pet vaccines will be the next recognized pet killer because right now people are turning a blind eye to this problem also.
I feel your pain. Knowing that we fed our pets these foods, is so much a part of the pain. Thinking that you were pampering them and giving them the best, only to find out they were poisoned. Just keep remembering the good times. The tears come in spurts as the time passes. It was such a helpless feeling. Sorry for your loss of your beautiful Dog.
Hi,
Your story brought tears to my eyes. We also had an airedale, she is gone now but I still miss her. She also smiled, also took your hand in her mouth and walked with you. And she did run, about twice a year she would take off and I would think that something got her and after 24 hours she would return. Neighbors said they saw her in the valley, miles away. She was an Oorang stock. So sorry to hear about the death of your Abby. M.
Why is this titled MENU FOODS VICTIMS if your dog died from dry food not made at Menu Foods? Now that there are dry recalls from manufacturers that are not Menu Foods, perhaps you should change your blog title to be acurate.
What pet food were you feeding your dog?
My vet and myself are trying to nurse back to health my 6 month old kitten who is also a new mom of five kittens (Now three weeks old) she started showing symptoms yesterday and I fed her PAWS canned food, last week not knowing it was recalled. I baught the food on may 2nd at 12;56 pm at a Coborns Grocery store and started feeding her thinking it would help her keep more nutrients while caring for the babies, then Wednesday she started looking thin and vommiting and releiving herself on the floor in the bathroom, I thought it was just an upset stomach then yesterday took her to the vet in the morning where they gave her liquids and watched her and checked her for feline leukemia and influenza and related which came up negative and about 230 pm I picked her up and got some formula for the kittens so she could rest I would feed the kittens and stimulate them part of the time but also allowing her at her own free will to occassionally care for her babies.
After getting home she seemed to improve and ate and drank fine and cared for the babies and seemed to have energy, also this morning she seemed okay but then I went to sleep at 830 am this morning and woke about 1 pm and found her layiing by the water dish in bad shape again she refused liquids and food so I went to get more of the prescription food and after checking two stores seeing the same food I fed her last week on the shelf asked the Coborns manager if the PAWS canned food was on the recall they told me to go home call them with upc numbers, but not finding the food I was looking for stoppednext door at the vet where she was seen to begin with and got the food there and then asked or told them about her symptoms acting up again and at the same time asking about this recall and they gave me a list of foods and when I got home found that she got sick again and verifying cans of the food it was the recalled items, so I called the vet immediately and they said to bring her in, at this time she was getting cool to the touch and lifeless, they said after a blood test she had no kidney function and not sure how damaged they were. They are currently trying to flush her with fluids and see if they can't save her. My vet is very upset about this and offered to assist in contacting some of the parties such as the store about having the tainted food on the shelves and also I am researching more of this so I can up date him about it for he is a very busy man lately living here in a country setting. In less then 20 minutes he had four emergencies come in and more comming in as I was leaving and I really appreciate all he is doing for me and my Gizzy (Gizmo cause she has an orange stipe on her forehead so she is named after Gizmo in the Gremlins movie).
My case seems to be the first in this area for they did not even know what tests to do and so on but when they heard she was fed recalled food and I thought she was poisoned they checked the kidneys and sure enough they were shut down. In dedication to my vet and the sake of all animals Great and Small (they need someone to speak on thier behalf for they too HAVE FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS TOO!!!!) I am going to volunteer my services a day or more a week to help as needed, including foster care if needed. With my share of pet accidents and issued in growing up and area pets and already rescued animals I feel I will be good at it and someday open a rescue center for these special critters.
